Community Playground Opening
Three new play spaces were officially opened by the Victorian Minister for Local Government Adem Somyurek in Wallan in April.
Following community consultation in 2018, adventure+ worked with landscape architects engaged by Mitchell Shire Council to design the new play spaces.
With population growth in the Wallan area, developing play spaces is a key priority for the state government, who contributed 75% of the funding of the project. Mitchell Shire Council funded the remainder of the project.
The three play spaces, Coffey Drive, Lisa Place and Roulston Way are great outdoor spaces that provide a hub for communities. With playground equipment, seating, shade, hard and soft landscape and grassed spaces, these spaces suit children of all ages, as well as their parents.
Having worked with adventure+ previously, parties involved could be assured that the playground design would be engaging and the finished result would be of high quality and require minimal maintenance.
Mitchell Shire Mayor Bill Chisholm said the council was pleased to see the new play spaces open for residents in Wallan.
‘‘We are pleased to see the play spaces go into our communities as they are a brilliant setting for people to maintain healthy, active lifestyles,’’ he said.
‘‘They are more than just playgrounds. People are able to socialise with others while children learn how to adapt to different situations, boosting physical, social and problem-solving skills.”
Playgrounds like these play an important part in creating great liveable communities that thrive and prosper. Mitchell Shire Councillor Sanderson said, “Neighbourhood playgrounds are such a good way to encourage active, healthy and well-connected communities.”
“This is all part of what makes Mitchell a great place to live, work or do business” she said.
