Project

McKenzie Reserve

Located close to the centre of Yarra Glen in Victoria’s Yarra Valley, the play space is both a significant asset for the region’s families and an economic boost to the town as a destination for day-trippers.

The symmetry+ custom designed play unit is a landmark that draws the community in. The unit’s multiple platform decks, bridges, tunnels and hide outs gives children the opportunity to use their imagination through exploring and playing games. The design intentionally blurs boundaries between activities, allowing play to flow naturally from one challenge to another. The large central deck on the main cluster is connected to an adjacent climbing net via a rope bridge, with several additional transitions to a sandpit, picnic areas and adjacent footpaths.

Timber was selected as the primary structural material because it enables a greater level of customisation and its natural character suits the site and region perfectly.
